You are very much meant to be accessible to an American audience, and I get a lot of flak for Unspoken being too British as it is. Which is not meant to say people can't be annoyed over the compromises i did make, like not mapping out the precise path Kami would take to become a journalist *and* go to Cambridge. Because of course they can, and that's valid. Middle courses annoy people too! Totally valid. But wanted to say, well, yes, required to produce books in American is a concern.
