Frosty morning

I haven't been sleeping well, and one of the things they recommend is going outside early in the morning to reset your body clock.  I've been walking round the block in my pyjamas (and winter coat and hat!) as early as possible. This morning it was 9.30, the sun blasting a cold yellow fire from a pale blue sky, minus 4°C and the tall trees haloed every branch and twig in hoar frost.  So beautiful.

That sounds absolutely lovely, and worth doing on its own. I hope it helps the sleep too. (You remind me that I did that for a bit last year, and should go back to doing it.)

So beautiful - but so cold!

early morning walks in natural light are splendid. Though less splendid when there really isn't much light, just grey rainy murk ...

This morning was particularly spectacular as the mist cleared and that pale blue sky appeared. (I have no choice about the early morning walk: I let the hens out wearing my dressing gown (sometimes with wellies, woolly hat and gloves) at sometime between 6.00 and 7.30 every day). Minus 4 with no wind is quite bearable. It's the wind I dread.

Above average snowfall here means that the sidewalks are unpredictably treacherous; some do a respectable job of shoveling, some do not. Putting something like yaktrax (sorry if not viewable for you... traction improving boot sole enhancements) on one's footgear is the only hope.

We have had more hoar frost this season than any I can remember. I don't know why.

That sounds wonderful. My aging body has decided I wake with the sun, which is some kind of bullshit, but I notice I just can't sleep late anymore. On the other hand, I don't ever go for a walk early, and now I think maybe I should. Because I am missing out on some beautiful views, I bet.

That sounds very fine.

When I'm on the houseboat trips, which are usually in late autumn, I'll wake at dawn, pull my coat over my pyjamas, and go out for a walk. But I can't remember when I last saw hoar frost!
