I loved "Uprooted." I couldn't get through "My Real Children," I need to try it again. Only Jo Walton I've ever not loved madly right off the bat.

Yes, Uprooted just felt like the nearest thing to a Robin McKinley novel since the last Robin McKinley novel.

The Walton is well worth persevering with, if you can. I think it reminded me of Marge Piercy, in some ways, global events reflected through the small details of people's lives and relationships. But one of the great things about Walton is that all of the books of hers that I've read are very different. So far I haven't bounced off any but it may well happen in the future.
