I managed to finish 133 books in 2010.  This is a slight surprise as in 2009 I read 163, but I guess I've been busy.

Best books I read in 2010 (more or less in order of excellence).  It's a coincidence that there are ten of them.:

Allegra Goodman - Intuition
Tom Rob Smith - Child 44
Ariana Franklin - Relics of the Dead
Patrick Rothfuss - The Name of the Wind
Maya Slater - Mr Darcy's Diary
Madeleine George - Looks
Scott Westerfeld - Leviathan
Hilary Mantel - Wolf Hall
Muriel Barbery - L'Elegance de L'Herisson
Amin Maalouf - The Crusades through Arab Eyes

Best SF and Fantasy not on the list above, in order of reading:

Sherwood Smith - Treason's Shore
Scott Westerfeld - Parasite Positive
Sandra McDonald - The Outback Stars
Martin Millar - Lonely Werewolf Girl
Ngugi wa Thiong'o - The Wizard of the Crow
Kristin Cashore - Graceling
Robin Wassermann - Skinned
Kage Baker - In the Garden of Iden
Sergei Lukyanenko - The Night Watch
Patrick Ness - Monsters of Men
Elizabeth Bear - Whiskey and Water
Freda Warrington - Elfland

ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY THREE books read?!

:( Feel thoroughly illiterate now!

But thanks for the 'good books' list - I do rely a lot on recommendations when selecting the - very much smaller! - books I want to read.

hmm... am thinking (as LOTS of people on LJ do regular book counts, but far fewer do book reviews) that in all discussion of books, they should be weighed rather than counted? The 'top ten' idea is brilliant!

My recommendation for 2011 would be Atwood's 'Year of the Flood' (companion to 'Oryx & Crake'). Aside from 'Kite Runner', it's the best thing I read last year.

I work part time and I have a long commute. Even though I am supposed to be Writing The Novel, this does give me quite a bit of time for reading in.

Many of the 133 books are very fluffy indeed!

I haven't read either of the Margaret Atwoods, so will put on my list. The Kite Runner looked worthy and also a bit depressing.

the commute WOULD help, (as long as you get a seat!) i shall blame my low book count on walkign to work(!)

Kite Runner IS depressing but also v good read.
