Books read in 2011 - 150

I have at various points intended to post brief reviews of the ones I most enjoyed reading, but didn't get round to it, so here's the list, in date order:

Best F and SF

The Dervish House - Ian MacDonald
Cloud and Ashes - Greer Gilman (not sure "enjoyed" is the right word for this one - it felt like wrestling my way through thorny thickets of prose, but it has stayed with me)
Behemoth - Scott Westerfeld
Jasmyn - Alex Bell
All the Windwracked Stars - Elizabeth Bear
Hammered - Elizabeth Bear
Cold Magic - Kate Elliott
Desdaemona - Ben Macallan
The Bone Palace - Amanda Downum
The Midnight Mayor - Kate Griffin
Rivers of London - Ben Aaronovitch
The Cold Calling - Will Kingdom
Troubled Waters - Sharon Shinn
Viaduct Child - Patrick Wood

Best non-SF fiction

Master and Commander - Patrick O'Brian (actually I read a lot of these and enjoyed them all, but no point in listing them all)
Metaphysique des Tubes - Amelie Nothomb
The Clothes on Their Backs - Linda Grant
High Wages - Dorothy Whipple
The Likeness - Tana French
The Last Witchfinder - James Morrow
The Children's Book - A S Byatt
Beyond Black - Hilary Mantel
Winter's Bone - Daniel Woodrell
Knights of the Sacred Blade - Julian Atterton
Sara Paretsky - Hardball

Best non-fiction

Mothers in the Fatherland - Claudia Koonz
In search of the Trojan War - Michael Wood
Persian Fire - Tom Holland
Nietzsche - a Very Short Introduction - Michael Tanner

As usual I have more in common with you on the non sf than the sf - but I am finding Linda Grant so mind bogglingly depressing these days (and also in person at the Bk Festival, so annoying) that I may have to give her up..
