"He's starting to be a frequent flyer, isn't he?" remarked the vet as I took Freddy in to see her for the severalth time in the last few months.

I was worried because he has been drinking more than usual, and jumping up onto the sink to drink out of the pans soaking in there.  I looked on the internets and they said doom, doom, kidney failure, diabetes, ect, take your cat to the vet immediately, so I thought it would be sensible to do so.

Anyway she prodded him and took his temperature and took a urine sample, and he seems to be fine and is especially not suffering from kidney failure.  She said the next step was blood tests, but given that it is unnaturally cold at the moment he may just be missing outside sources of water (for instance if my neighbour's water feature happens to have frozen over) so to keep an eye on him and come back in a few weeks if things do not improve.

So, panic over for the time being.

I'm sure you were right to get him checked out but I have never known a cat whose drinking habits were not bizarre and alarming. Zil used to do exactly what you describe. Humbug drinks lots from bowls indoors and Leicester hardly drinks at all. But if Leicester is in a cage with a broken pelvis, neither of them drinks until Leicester is out again.

I'm afraid that in the nicest possible way, Freddie is a bit of drunkard. I'm glad it's nothing to worry about. (And at least, since it's Freddy, he's a relatively easy cat to wrangle to the vet.

Oh, and since I'm posting: I'm at the hotel in Saas Fee (which Kari and I have decided means "the place of Saxon fairies"), and you may have deduced that we have wi-fi - but I can't get to the e-mail webpages for some reason. So have an LJ reply instead!

I didn't sleep much last night - about an hour and a half - and the taxi turned up pretty much on time. Stanstead was working fine, but Geneva was having snow problems, so we took off about an hour late, and spent an extra half hour in the air before they let us land. But after that the coaches were all on time (and comfy), and we got to the hotel about 3pm (local time). I think that counts as a pretty good ski transfer compared to many (cough Innsbruck cough). We've collected all our ski gear and we're ready for tomorrow. As long as we get some sleep first! I got up to about 4 hours by napping in transit, so I'm coping, but I'm aware I'm not quite fully functional. Wish you were here.

Glad to hear the journey was OK and you did not get diverted to Innsbruck. I daresay you are having a delicious 5 course meal at the moment. Have a lovely day tomorrow.

Our Freds are giving us vet bills lately! Glad your Fred (m) is perfectly well. My Fred (f) is responding just as one would wish to the pain medication, so it's a teeth cleaning for her in a couple of weeks.
