...which probably everyone else knew already, but I didn't.  I particularly didn't realise how strong UKIP are in the East of England, which they have used as an example (scroll down to the table).

We're in a region which includes a big chunk of rural Norfolk, which is traditionally conservative and tends to be anti-Europe, hence UKIP. They also have a shamefully high liking for the EDL and the BNP, which is why, in the last Euro-election, the BNP leafleted Cambridge. To UKIP, Cambridge is fringe: they are relying on all the little Englanders to the east. It's the classic urban/rural split, with added jingoism due to higher levels of poverty and a slightly higher than average incidence of seasonal migrant workers, who some of the catchment see as a threat.
